Northeastern University seeks a News Editor for Social Media to develop editorial strategies for social-first news content across platforms and uphold journalistic and brand standards across creator-produced content. The role combines editorial judgment and social media strategy to present Northeastern as a knowledge brand that educates and informs. It calls for strong journalism experience grounded in rigor, accuracy, creativity, and innovation. The editor monitors the global news cycle and identifies timely topics and angles that showcase faculty expertise and connect with current events. Reporting to the Vice President for Communications, the editor works with Northeastern Global News (NGN) editors, reporters, and content creators to identify angles and timelines, shape content and formats, and write platform-specific material for channels such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Reddit. The editor uses knowledge of current and emerging platforms and audience-engagement trends to build editorial strategies, with data-informed goals and metrics. The role draws on Northeastern’s academic and research enterprise as a source for news and uses AI-powered tools responsibly—including media monitoring, automated insight generation, and data analytics—to innovate, increase capacity, and measure progress. In partnership with the Creative Director for Social Video, the editor leads editorial training for creators without traditional journalism backgrounds, maintaining fact-checking, source verification, and editorial ethics. The editor also helps NGN reporters adapt original reporting for social platforms. The position is based on Northeastern’s Boston campus and is fully in-person. After-hours work, including weekends, holidays, and events, is routinely required. Higher education experience is not required.
