About The Position

The Stamford Hospital GEMS (Graduates: Engaged, Mastering, Succeeding) Nurse Residency Program is nationally accredited with distinction by ANCC PTAP. This innovative 12-month program is designed to ease new graduate nurses into the patient care environment, providing them with the necessary support and education to succeed as professional nurses. The program includes 14-18 weeks of orientation, typically with two weeks in the classroom followed by 12-16 weeks on a clinical unit with a preceptor. Regularly scheduled debriefing sessions throughout the first year offer opportunities for education, support, and professional development. A formal graduation ceremony marks the completion of the program, with a certificate awarded to those who meet the requirements. New RNs accepted into the GEMS program are hired as full-time employees onto a specific unit.

Requirements

• Completed BSN degree from an accredited nursing program.
• Passing result on the NCLEX.
• Obtain RN license by the start date of the program.
• BLS or Heart Saver certification.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a 12-month nurse residency program.
• Complete 14-18 weeks of orientation, including classroom and clinical unit experience with a preceptor.
• Attend regularly scheduled debriefing sessions for education, support, and professional development.
• Meet program requirements to receive a completion certificate.
