About The Position

The GEMS (Graduates: Engaged, Mastering, Succeeding) Stamford Hospital Nurse Residency Program is nationally accredited with distinction by ANCC PTAP. It is an innovative nurse residency program designed to ease new graduate nurses into the patient care environment, providing them with the necessary support to succeed as professional nurses. This 12-month program offers extra support and education for new nursing graduates, including 14-18 weeks of orientation. The orientation typically involves the first two weeks in the classroom, followed by 12-16 weeks on a clinical unit with a preceptor. The program also includes regularly scheduled debriefing sessions throughout the first year for education, support, and professional development. Upon completion of the program requirements, nurses receive a completion certificate at a formal graduation ceremony. New RNs accepted into the GEMS program are hired as full-time employees onto a specific unit.

Requirements

• Completed BSN degree from an accredited nursing program.
• Passing result on the NCLEX.
• RN license by the start date of the program.
• BLS or Heart Saver certification.

Responsibilities

• Ease new graduate nurses into the patient care environment.
• Provide support for new graduates to succeed in the role of a professional nurse.
• Participate in classroom orientation.
• Engage in clinical unit orientation with a preceptor.
• Attend regularly scheduled debriefing sessions for education, support, and professional development.
