The Ahuja Medical Center Step Down Unit is a 22-bed telemetry unit caring for cardiac, medical, surgical, and neurological patients. Patients may have CHF, pneumonia, diabetes, or post-CVA needs; require neurological or postoperative care; or be recovering after cardiac catheterization, carotid endarterectomy, myocardial infarction, pacemaker or defibrillator placement. The unit also cares for patients with sepsis and other medical or surgical needs. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4:1 on days and generally 5:1 at night. The nurse provides safe, efficient, age-specific care to patients and families using the nursing process to help them attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health. The role delivers relationship-based care, uses technical skills to support safe practice and positive outcomes, communicates and collaborates effectively, contributes to professional nursing practice, demonstrates leadership, and reflects the hospital’s mission and values. New graduate nurses receive support through a Nurse Residency Program to assist with the transition to practice. An Ohio RN license is not required to be considered; an offer may be contingent on obtaining licensure within the timeframe discussed at offer acceptance. Current American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification must be obtained during Nursing Orientation. Education and degree verification will be required after a job offer.
