J63 is a 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry unit specializing in the care of post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device (VAD) patients. This fast-paced environment provides excellent opportunities for nursing growth and development while caring for patients undergoing innovative cardiovascular procedures, including coronary artery bypass surgery, minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, VADs, valve replacement or repair, and complex procedures such as maze procedures, endarterectomy, and aneurysm repair. The unit also cares for patients with a variety of cardiac conditions, including angina, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and patients undergoing pacemaker or defibrillator procedures. RNs provide specialized, evidence-based nursing care, patient education focused on unique discharge needs, and close monitoring of complex cardiovascular conditions. Working collaboratively with specialized and multidisciplinary teams, RNs on J63 play an essential role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting optimal recovery and outcomes. A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM – 7:30PM or 7:00PM – 7:30AM. Weekend and holiday rotation are required.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • New grad OR less than one year RN work experience OR if an experienced RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year of current acute direct patient care RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire
  • If in critical area am Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.
