About The Position

Joseph J. Magnolia (“JJM”) is currently seeking an experienced HVAC/R Technician to join our team. This role involves managing, servicing, quality control, start-up, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commercial HVAC/R equipment and systems on active construction projects throughout the DC metropolitan area. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, technically skilled, and able to communicate effectively while leading small teams, subcontractors, and vendors in a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC construction.
  • Strong technical aptitude with a well-rounded understanding of HVAC/R systems and code compliance.
  • Ability to manage small teams, subcontractors, and vendors effectively.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under strict deadlines.
  • EPA Certification for refrigerant handling required.
  • Familiarity with commercial HVAC systems including: VRF/VRV Systems, RTUs, VAV Systems, Chillers, Boilers, Cooling Towers, Heat Pumps, Pumps, Heat Exchangers, BAS Controls, VFDs, Geo-Thermal Systems, Water Source Equipment, Ductless Split Systems.
  • Understanding of electrical systems, associated codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with REVIT, VDC, and construction technology platforms preferred.
  • Journeyman Gasfitter and/or Journeyman Mechanical License preferred.
  • Manufacturer training and certifications preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage installation, labor, materials, and quality control for HVAC/R systems and equipment.
  • Perform start-up, troubleshooting, servicing, testing, and commissioning of commercial HVAC/R systems.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, coordinated drawings, and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project management teams, subcontractors, vendors, and general contractors.
  • Perform functional testing of HVAC/R systems and equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Assist with controls integration, balancing, and commissioning processes.
  • Maintain safe working conditions in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Effectively communicate project updates, issues, and solutions with office staff and field personnel.
  • Perform daily jobsite tasks while maintaining productivity and quality workmanship.
  • Ensure installations comply with applicable mechanical, gas, electrical, and building codes.
