About The Position

The Nevada Operations (NVO) Supervisor serves as a strategic and administrative partner to the NVO leadership team, helping ensure alignment across people, projects, operations, and organizational priorities. This role is designed for someone who can build trust, create operational clarity, and take increasing ownership over key initiatives. As the organization grows, the position offers the opportunity to evolve into a broader operational leadership role, serving as a critical second-in-command and shaping the future of the Nevada Operations team. In this highly collaborative and fast-paced role, the NVO Supervisor provides operational and administrative support across a wide range of Nevada Operations functions. This position helps maintain organizational momentum by coordinating communications, supporting cross-departmental collaboration, assisting with operational planning and event coordination, and helping facilitate the systems and processes that support both day-to-day operations and long-term goals across Gerlach, Black Rock Station, and Black Rock City. The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, adaptable, and proactive, with strong judgment and a high degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion. They are a skilled communicator and problem-solver who can manage competing priorities, anticipate operational needs, and build collaborative relationships across departments while contributing to a culture of accountability, trust, and teamwork. This is a regular, full-time role, located in Reno or Gerlach, Nevada. If located in Reno, frequent travel to Gerlach will be required.

Requirements

  • Live near or in Gerlach
  • 3-5 years of administrative support experience
  • 3-5 years of management experience
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust work schedule as needed, specifically around the Burning Man event held in Nevada
  • Lead by example, motivate, have strong interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Confidentiality is a must
  • Versatile and strong computer skills
  • Experience using Google Suite and Asana
  • Dedicated to upholding the principles of behavior and ethics and acting in accordance with Burning Man Project’s staff policies
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record

  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture

Responsibilities

  • Developing annual budgets based on project scopes
  • Defining spending guidelines for departmental managers
  • Preparing business justifications for high-level budget variances
  • Creating cohesive Nevada Operations (NVO) communication strategies centered around the infrastructure of care, feeding, and transport for the event's entire workforce
  • Driving the leadership, training, and cultural alignment of staff and volunteers across multiple departments
  • Aligning infrastructure with external production branches like the Department of Public Works (DPW) to integrate municipal and event operations
  • Retaining authority directly over multi-departmental program participant decisions and organizational scope under the general direction of the Associate Director
  • Determining department structure, interviewing candidates, and selecting senior staffing heads for specialized operational sub-units (kitchens, saloons, transport)
  • Navigating applicant tracking tools like JazzHR, reviewing baseline applications, and coordinating interview calendars
  • Performing routine tracking, regular monitoring of expenses, and processing weekly/monthly reviews of financial line items using tools like Procurify and Expensify
  • Reviewing and approving operational bills for equipment, verifying materials, and processing standard vendor payments
  • Creating, publishing, and maintaining physical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process manuals, and job descriptions for seasonal teams
  • Passing standard operational updates about menu timings, events, and transit shuttle paths down to the ground staff through communication loops like Slack and the Compass
  • Attend Burning Man staff and departmental meetings as requested
  • Support the Gerlach Office as needed, including assisting staff and visitors at the front desk
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties
  • Helps acculturate and educate junior staff in Burning Man culture and business processes
  • Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested
  • Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes
