About The Position

The Mechanic Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring vehicles and equipment are repaired and maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards. This position supervises mechanics and support staff, assigns and monitors work, maintains productivity and quality standards, and promotes a safe working environment. The supervisor serves as the primary liaison between maintenance personnel and operations to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance, repair procedures, and diagnostic systems.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship. No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and fleet management practices.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct the daily activities of mechanics, technicians, and shop personnel.
  • Plan, assign, and prioritize repair and maintenance work to meet operational demands.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance inspections and services are completed on schedule.
  • Monitor work quality and inspect completed repairs to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Diagnose and assist with troubleshooting complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic issues.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and repair histories.
  • Manage shop workflow to maximize productivity and equipment availability.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and shop facilities.
  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, supplies, and consumables; coordinate purchases as needed.
  • Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety meetings and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel to improve performance and technical skills.
  • Participate in hiring, scheduling, disciplinary actions, and employee development activities.
  • Coordinate with operations and other departments regarding maintenance priorities and equipment status.
  • Assist with budget planning and control labor, parts, and maintenance expenses.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide after-hours support when required.
