About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at a Level I trauma center. The role involves inpatient coverage, focusing on post-operative and neurocritical care for spinal and cranial cases. The group includes 7 Neurosurgeons, with an average patient census of 10. This is a long-term permanent search, and the position requires day and night coverage with 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM - 6:00 PM). The patient population is adult.

Requirements

Active Montana licensure
Board certification
AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
Minimum 1-year Neurosurgery experience or equivalent
Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Montana
National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP])
Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Montana
National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Nice To Haves

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics)
Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
Order and interpret diagnostic tests
Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
