About The Position

The University of Virginia's Division of Student Affairs invites applications for a Networks Coordinator for the Office of African-American Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs consists of over 200 employees including: Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer; Student Health and Wellness; Housing and Residence Life; and several units reporting to the Dean of Students – all working together, for and alongside students, to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known. Position Overview The Networks Coordinator plays a central role in advancing OAAA's mission of connecting students to people, opportunities, and pathways that support their personal, academic, and professional growth. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Networks, the Coordinator helps cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of peer, alumni, faculty, staff, and community connections that enhance student success and belonging. This position supports the development and implementation of programs that strengthen peer-to-peer engagement, foster mentorship and professional networking opportunities, encourage career curiosity and exploration, and connect students to the broader UVA community. The Coordinator will oversee key operational functions while helping expand OAAA's network-based approach to student engagement and support. The ideal candidate is a collaborative relationship-builder, skilled communicator, and student-centered professional who is passionate about creating opportunities for students to connect, explore, and thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Education, Higher Ed Administration, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to draft promotional materials and official correspondence.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising student or volunteer teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in program or event coordination, preferably in higher education or non‐profit settings highly preferred.
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization, including analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and/or marketing platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events.

Responsibilities

  • Support the growth and implementation of OAAA's peer and professional networking initiatives, including peer advising, alumni engagement, mentorship opportunities, and student connection programs.
  • Assist in developing programs that help students build meaningful relationships with peers, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Coordinate opportunities that encourage career curiosity, exploration, and pathway discovery through networking, storytelling, mentoring, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with partners across grounds to connect students with resources, experiences, and networks that support academic success, personal development, and future goals.
  • Help assess the effectiveness of network-based engagement strategies and identify opportunities to strengthen student connection and participation.
  • Coordinate recruitment, training, and scheduling of Peer Advisors.
  • Liaise between Peer Advisors, student services, and academic departments
  • Track participation metrics and gather feedback for program improvements
  • Plan, promote, and execute weekly Friday events: arrange catering, manage volunteers, and oversee logistics.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise student volunteers for events.
  • Partner with other offices to support their academic and community building programs.
  • Develop and implement a content calendar for Facebook, Instagram, and email newsletters.
  • Create engaging graphics, captions, and event promotions (using Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.).
  • Monitor analytics and adjust strategies to boost engagement and attendance.
  • Manage event budgets, process invoices, reimbursements, and expense reports.
  • Maintain up‐to‐date records: volunteer rosters, event databases, and planning documents.
  • Build and sustain relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, student organizations, and community partners that expand opportunities for student connection and engagement.
  • Serve as a liaison to partners, alumni, and external stakeholders in support of peer and professional networking initiatives.
  • Represent OAAA in collaborative efforts that strengthen pathways to student success, belonging, exploration, and leadership development.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships that enhance OAAA's ability to connect students to people, resources, and opportunities across Grounds and beyond.
