About The Position

Weir Marine Engineering has a requirement for a Networking Infrastructure Specialist to work in an environment like no other. You will apply your extensive technical expertise and industry proven skills to the design of IT solutions for Canada’s future warships, the River-class Destroyers. You will work with hardware- and software-based networking infrastructure involving tactical, enterprise and cloud networks. This is a very technical position involving investigation, analysis, systems engineering and hands-on work with innovative information systems. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position with no on-call requirement or direct user support. Some work must be performed on-site, but most can be completed either remotely or on-site, at your choice.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of relevant IT technical experience;
  • Demonstrate extensive technical work experience in areas such as: Enterprise networking infrastructure and services configuration in cloud, hybrid-cloud and on-premise environments; Design and configuration of high availability networking infrastructure supporting operational and tactical information systems; and Use of systems and security engineering practices and methodologies;
  • Strong working knowledge in the following areas: Platforms: Cisco Nexus 9K, Catalyst 8000, Catalyst 9000, ISR 4k, NX-OS, IOS-XE; Virtualization/SDN: Broadcom VMware NSX, HCX; Cloud Networking: AWS, Azure, Azure Local, Kubernetes networking; Firewalls: Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower Threat Defence; Enterprise LAN/WAN: vPC/LAG, OSPF, BGP, VRFs, MPLS, DMVPN; Application optimization, visibility and Quality of Service (QoS); Operating Systems: Linux and Windows Server; and Automation: Ansible and python;
  • Fast learner, proactive, responsive, self-driven and autonomous, excellent organizational skills, takes ownership, demonstrates pride in their work, and pays very high attention to detail; and
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients, contracted industry partners, operational/technical stakeholders and the Royal Canadian Navy to understand, derive and develop project requirements (functional, performance, availability, security, etc.);
  • Develop comprehensive technical and systems engineering documentation by following well-established system and security engineering processes and using structured templates;
  • Conduct technical investigations, proof of concepts and evaluations, produce configurations and implementation procedures, develop test plans, conduct testing and support the fielding of production systems in land-based validation environments and directly onboard Canada’s future warships;
  • Participate and contribute in internal and external project review, coordination and progress scrums, sprints and meetings, and support quality objectives through peer reviews; and
