About The Position

Weir Marine Engineering (WME) has a requirement for a Microsoft Infrastructure Specialist to work with Windows Server, Directory Services, Azure cloud integration and related technologies in projects to develop, test and deliver complex IT solutions for existing and future ships of the Royal Canadian Navy. WME operates the Naval Engineering Test Establishment for the Department of National Defence. This is a very technical position for a subject matter expert, involving investigation, analysis and hands-on work with systems in test environments to arrive at the architecture and detailed design for the systems. In some cases, validation and pilot deployment after testing may be conducted in production environments. There is no on-call requirement or user support associated with this role. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position based in either Halifax NS, LaSalle QC or Victoria BC. Some work must be performed on-site, but most of the work can be performed either remotely or on-site, at your choice.

Requirements

  • Ten or more years of relevant IT technical experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Infrastructure and Active Directory, including experience working with large multi-domain Active Directory environments and Enterprise rollouts of Windows Server 2019/2022.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS) and hybrid on-premise/cloud configurations and migrations.
  • Experience with automating installations, with focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) setups via Microsoft PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python and/or other scripting tools.
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients and business/technical stakeholders to understand, extract and develop project requirements (functional, operational, performance, security, etc.).
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentation material.
  • Design, set-up, configure and test new IT systems, technologies or capabilities for integration into a large existing Microsoft enterprise environment.
  • Perform various integration, performance and functional testing of changes to current systems within a Microsoft-based hybrid network infrastructure.
  • Participate in internal and external review, coordination and progress meetings.
  • Conduct review of technical work from your peers.
