About The Position

Hiring a Network Engineering Team Lead to oversee a technical team of 5 people responsible for the university's enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure. This is a individual contributor and people leader hybrid role. This individual needs to be technically credible enough to work independently on complex network challenges while also managing the day-to-day operations of their team. Daily responsibilities include supervising and directing team members, managing task prioritization and escalations, overseeing network projects from design through implementation, coordinating with campus departments and external vendors, and ensuring network reliability, security, and scalability across a large and active campus environment. The role also involves monitoring network performance, maintaining documentation, responding to service requests, and participating in an on-call rotation (approximately 3–4 weeks per year, covering non-business hours and weekends). This is an on-campus position in Knoxville, Tennessee with some hybrid/remote flexibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Hybrid cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud)
  • Working knowledge of network automation tools: Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, scripting, API integration
  • Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools: SolarWinds, Ekahau, Wireshark, Nmap, netflow, packet capture
  • Familiarity with Aruba Central/VisualRF, Arista, Fortinet, or Juniper platforms
  • Basic knowledge of open-source platforms such as Linux and FreeRADIUS
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and network planning documentation
