About The Position

The Network & Systems Administrator provides the highest level of tech support including, planning, deploying, troubleshooting and maintenance in all aspects of the infrastructure environment. The Network & Systems Administrator will be required to perform entry level to complex technical and administrative tasks. This role involves ensuring the security and efficiency of IT infrastructure, monitoring system performance, and collecting data to forecast infrastructure needs. The administrator will also be responsible for Active Directory, VMware, SharePoint, and Office 365 administration, as well as software updates and hardware/software installation on physical and virtual systems. The position requires the ability to understand and execute instructions, meet physical and mental demands, evaluate and implement security measures, configure network security features and firewalls, ensure proper system backups, and prepare documentation. Additionally, the role involves training staff, setting up user permissions, and being available for after-hours support. The administrator will also conduct customization and system administration for network management, help desk operations, and workgroup integration across LANs and WANs. This includes analyzing and recommending new hardware/software, performing advanced diagnostics, and staying current with IT developments. The role may also involve assisting IT management with systems standards, goals, project management, and strategic directions. Student workers may be assigned to the Networking team under this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Information Technology field or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure, Microsoft Configuring Windows Server Hybrid Advanced Services, and CompTIA Linux+ certifications must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Proficient with Computer and Server Operating Systems in a virtual machine environment
  • Proficient with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of virtual computer systems
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Windows, Linux Server Operating Systems
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Active Directory, GPO’s, and security groups
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with storage and virtual machines
  • Monitoring, working tickets in the ticketing system and seeing them through to completion
  • Handling emergent issues as they arise
  • Server setup, deployment and maintenance
  • Windows workstation and server patching
  • Office 365, Intune, Deploy, SharePoint, WordPress, Mobile App and JAMF administration and maintenance
  • Major System Component Installations
  • Storage Administration
  • Windows, Linux and VMWare Administration
  • Backup and Data Retention activities
  • Assisting vendors and other 3rd parties with implementation of any professional service installations
  • The ability to read and write instructions, see, hear, operate a computer, comprehend, and then carry out directives when instructed

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications that demonstrate proficiency with Enterprise I.T. Infrastructure such as Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, etc. are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the security and efficiency of IT infrastructure
  • Monitoring system performance, availability and troubleshooting issues
  • Collecting and analyzing data to forecast infrastructure system needs before issues arise
  • Identifying issues and implementing plans for remediation before the issues negatively impact the business
  • Performing Active Directory, VMware, SharePoint and Office 365 Administration tasks
  • Performing Software Updates (Windows and other 3rd party software)
  • Installing and configuring software and hardware on physical and virtual systems
  • Evaluates, recommends, implements, and ensures systems security
  • Configures, maintains and manages network security features for networked servers
  • Configures, monitors and maintains firewall to ensure network and systems integrity
  • Ensures proper system backups are made and stored
  • Prepares client, operations, and systems documentation according to pre-established standards
  • Setup of user permissions, security classes, installing of patches
  • Conducts customization and system administration tasks for network management, task/project management, help desk phone and ticket management, workgroup integration, documentation, and educational software packages across local area networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs)
  • Analyzes, recommends, and evaluates new hardware, software and communications products for network compatibility and applicability
  • Performs advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktop devices when additional expertise is required
  • Keeps current on new developments and techniques in the field of information technology
  • Assists IT management with development of systems standards, short and long-term goals, project management and strategic directions
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned in support of the College’s goals and core values
