About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is seeking a Network Systems Administrator to join its Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division. The FIT Division is responsible for designing, building, and supporting all aspects of DOF's computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. The Network and VOIP support team specifically manages the network connectivity for the agency across 11 sites, supporting over 300 servers and critical tax revenue systems. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Network/VOIP Infrastructure and will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the agency's network operations.

Requirements

  • Permanent Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN) Civil Service Title or permanent in a comparable Civil Service Title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change.
  • Include Employee Identification Number (EIN) when applying.
  • Indicate permanent Civil Service title in cover letter.
  • Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described above; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.
  • Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience.
  • A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • All candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time information technology experience as described in the baccalaureate degree requirement.

  • Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop dashboards and network maps for real-time connectivity of DOF's Cisco switching and routing network devices.
  • Ensure network availability for users and provide quick resolution to access issues.
  • Install Cisco Catalyst 9400, 4500, 3800 series access switches and configure them to provide LAN/WAN access.
  • Configure core routers and switches that connect to OTI’s CityNet.
  • Design and create new VLAN subnets on DOF's access and core Cisco switches.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues related to IP, redundancy, EIGRP, RIP, RIPv2, OSPF, VLANs, cabling, printing, security, and the OTI cloud.
  • Develop and implement advanced network management programs for DOF’s Wide Area Network.
  • Troubleshoot VoIP related issues.
  • Liaise with vendors for technical support.
  • Diagnose network connectivity problems and communicate technical issues to stakeholders.
  • Perform highly complex, technical work in LAN/WAN Network design.
  • Provide 4th level technical support to DOF and OTI.
