About The Position

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city. The Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division designs, builds, and supports all of DOF’s computer systems. FIT delivers and administers tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by providing the necessary IT solutions. FIT is also responsible for systems and websites related to citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety work. The FIT’s Network and VOIP support team manages all network connectivity for the agency, which includes 11 sites and over 300 servers. The Network & VoIP Team is seeking a Network Systems Administrator to join their team.

Requirements

  • Permanent Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN) Civil Service Title or permanent in a comparable Civil Service Title eligible for a 6.1.9 title change.
  • Include Employee Identification Number (EIN) when applying.
  • Indicate permanent Civil Service Title in cover letter.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management.
  • OR Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been in network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management.
  • OR A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.
  • Incumbents may be required to obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s).
  • Must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time information technology experience in network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop dashboards and network maps for real-time connectivity of DOF's Cisco switching and routing network devices.
  • Ensure network availability for users and provide quick resolution to access issues.
  • Install Cisco Catalyst 9400, 4500, 3800 series access switches in wire rooms to provide LAN/WAN access.
  • Configure Cisco network access switches to provide LAN/WAN access for existing and new users.
  • Configure core routers & switches that connect to OTI’s CityNet.
  • Design and create new VLAN subnets on DOF's access and core Cisco switches.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues related to IP, redundancy, EIGRP, RIP, RIPv2, OSPF, VLANs, cabling, printing, security, and the OTI cloud.
  • Develop and implement advanced network management programs and services for DOF’s Wide Area Network.
  • Troubleshoot VoIP related issues.
  • Liaise with vendors for technical support.
  • Diagnose network connectivity problems and communicate technical issues to stakeholders.
  • Perform highly complex, technical work in LAN/WAN Network design.
  • Provide 4th level technical support to DOF and OTI.
