The intern will support the design, documentation, and implementation of network infrastructure solutions for naval operations and gain exposure to digital engineering methodologies, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's or master's degree program in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Technical knowledge or coursework in at least one of network design and architecture, systems engineering, database management, or IT infrastructure.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical procedures accurately.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with database management, data analysis, or configuration management tools.
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points.
  • Understanding of network topologies and site connectivity architectures.
  • Familiarity with Bill of Materials (BOM) processes and inventory management systems.
  • Exposure to MBSE concepts or tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, SysML, or Teamwork Cloud.
  • Understanding of IT service management frameworks or processes.
  • Experience with network diagramming tools such as Microsoft Visio or similar.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 (Office, SharePoint, Teams) or similar collaboration platforms.
  • Coursework or projects involving network architecture, network design, site planning, or infrastructure topology.
  • Interest in a career in network engineering, network architecture, or IT infrastructure design.
  • Previous technical or networking internship or co-op experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and review of change requests for network site designs and related technical documentation for infrastructure projects across naval installations.
  • Assist with network site topology design and documentation, including site layouts, network device placement, and logical and physical topology diagrams.
  • Use the Active Bill of Materials (ABOM) to track network equipment, validate component specifications, and maintain inventory records.
  • Participate in network architecture planning, including site connectivity design, routing protocols, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Collaborate with network architects and engineers on site-specific designs that align with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
  • Support preparation of network design templates in Cameo Systems Modeler and help ensure compliance with NSD procedures and standards.
  • Assist with site survey validations, network solution assessments, and infrastructure upgrade evaluations.
  • Participate in digital engineering initiatives, curate designs in Cameo Systems Modeler, and learn MBSE methodologies for network architecture modeling.
  • Contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), network design documentation, and technical guides for site topology standards.
  • Help process implementation feedback from field teams and support post-deployment validation.
  • Verify data integrity of network device inventories, site topology databases, and ABOM records.
  • Attend team meetings and collaborate with network engineering, operations, and quality assurance teams.
