Network Engineer, Systematic Trading Infrastructure

Point72•New York, NY
•$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Point72’s Technology team evolves the firm’s IT infrastructure and engineering capabilities, using open-source solutions, modern cloud architectures, AI, and enterprise agile methodologies. The team supports professional development and delivers technology with business impact for the global investment firm. The Network Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority for trading network infrastructure, including market data, venue connectivity, colocation sites, inter-site links, and wide area networks. The role shapes architecture for colocated trading environments and connectivity across exchanges, venues, brokers, and data providers; designs and operates ultra-low-latency network fabrics; and ensures connectivity and network performance meet production trading requirements. The position also delivers market data and order-entry connectivity, builds monitoring and telemetry capabilities, and develops automation for network changes, onboarding, compliance, and diagnostics. It calls for ownership of complex network designs from architecture through production delivery, along with mentoring, documentation, change management, vendor coordination, and communication with senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Significant experience at a buy-side or sell-side financial firm with direct responsibility for production trading network infrastructure in colocation environments.
  • Deep expertise in BGP and IP routing across wide area network and extranet environments supporting latency-sensitive trading connectivity.
  • Demonstrated experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 design for low-latency data center fabrics.
  • Strong knowledge of load balancer and firewall platforms, segmentation architecture, and secure connectivity patterns for trading infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with multicast market data distribution, troubleshooting, gap and loss analysis, and reliable line-rate feed delivery.
  • Practical experience with Layer 1 multiplexing and tap infrastructure, switching, optical transport, dense wavelength-division multiplexing, and colocation cross-connect management.
  • Working knowledge of precision time synchronization, hardware timestamping, packet capture, and packet analysis at line rate.
  • Hands-on experience with network platforms used in latency-sensitive environments and familiarity with kernel bypass and low-latency host networking concepts.
  • Track record of owning complex network designs from architecture through production delivery and mentoring engineers on technical practice.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical authority for market data, venue connectivity, colocated sites, inter-site links, and the broader trading network.
  • Shape target-state architecture for colocated trading environments and wide area network connectivity across exchanges, venues, brokers, and data providers.
  • Design and operate ultra-low-latency network fabrics, including physical topologies, optical transport, structured cabling, patching strategy, and capacity planning.
  • Qualify and monitor inter-site circuits to ensure route latency, stability, resilience, and performance meet production trading requirements.
  • Configure and troubleshoot BGP, IP routing, load balancing, firewall controls, and segmentation patterns that protect trading infrastructure.
  • Build and troubleshoot end-to-end market data connectivity, including multicast and unicast delivery, loss analysis, arbitration paths, and line-rate reliability.
  • Deliver venue and broker onboarding for order entry, including gateway sessions, conformance, certification, and operational readiness for new launches.
  • Build latency monitoring, packet capture, precision timing, and telemetry capabilities that provide evidence-based answers about network performance.
  • Develop automation for network changes, validations, venue onboarding, compliance checks, and diagnostics, including safer execution using AI-assisted approaches.
  • Promote engineering discipline through change management, documentation, design reviews, mentoring, vendor coordination, and senior stakeholder communication.
