Network Operations

TC EnergyHouston, TX
Hybrid

About The Position

Our Network Operations team manages a large-scale network spanning the United States, Canada, and Mexico, supporting data center, field, campus, and operational technology (OT) environments critical to safe and reliable pipeline operations. We are seeking a Network Engineer to serve as the primary on-site network resource for TC Energy's Houston facilities. This role provides physical presence and hands-on support across two data centers, one corporate office, and a Gas Control work recovery center. The successful candidate will perform day-to-day network engineering duties while developing into the team's subject matter expert for Versa SD-WAN. This role combines traditional network engineering responsibilities with a strong site-technician function — you are the hands and feet for Houston when remote resolution isn't possible. You will work closely with our Network Operations Center (NOC) in Canada, receiving escalations that require local physical intervention, while also contributing to network projects, maintenance, and SD-WAN evolution across the broader enterprise.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in network engineering or network operations
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field
  • A combination of education, certifications and experience may be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching (campus, data center, and WAN)
  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, VLANs, spanning tree, QoS
  • Experience with network monitoring and management platforms (e.g., SolarWinds)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network issues across L1–L3
  • Experience performing physical network tasks: rack-and-stack, cabling, hardware replacement
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN concepts and architectures
  • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at remote sites
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent
  • Versa SD-WAN experience or certification (VNSP or similar)
  • Experience with Netbox or similar IPAM/DCIM tools
  • Exposure to OT/SCADA network environments
  • Experience supporting data center network infrastructure
  • Experience with cellular/modem-based connectivity (Sierra Wireless or similar)
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)
  • Experience with network automation or scripting (Python, Ansible)
  • Prior experience in energy, utilities, or pipeline operations environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site resource for all Houston network facilities (two data centers, corporate office, and Gas Control work recovery center)
  • Respond to hardware failures, outages, and escalations requiring physical intervention
  • Perform rack-and-stack activities for network equipment installations and replacements
  • Execute cable management, patching, and physical layer troubleshooting
  • Process hardware RMA returns and coordinate replacements with vendors
  • Provide console access for device recovery when remote management is unavailable
  • Escort vendors and contractors requiring access to network infrastructure
  • Maintain accurate physical documentation of network environments (rack elevations, cable records, port mappings)
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches across data center, campus, and WAN environments
  • Support and develop expertise in Versa SD-WAN platform administration, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Monitor network health and performance using SolarWinds Orion and respond to alerts
  • Maintain network documentation and asset records in Netbox
  • Support Sierra modem deployments and troubleshooting for remote connectivity
  • Participate in network change management activities including maintenance windows
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents escalated from the NOC
  • Support OT/SCADA network infrastructure on an as-needed basis when escalated
  • Work with the NOC team (Canada-based) to receive and action escalations requiring Houston physical presence
  • Collaborate with corporate network teams, server/infrastructure teams, and facilities management
  • Coordinate with Gas Control operations staff regarding work recovery center network readiness
  • Develop deep expertise in Versa SD-WAN with the goal of becoming the team's subject matter expert
  • Contribute to standard operating procedures, runbooks, and knowledge base documentation
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to root cause analysis
