About The Position

Meta’s Edge & Network Services (ENS) team is seeking a Network Infrastructure Design Engineer for its Foundation Design team. The role supports expansion of Meta’s global Edge/Backbone network and compute presence, developing and delivering infrastructure solutions at scale across data centers and globally distributed Points of Presence (POPs). The engineer works with cross-functional design, planning, and deployment teams to define and execute space, power, cooling, and connectivity requirements in Meta’s global colocation spaces, including POPs, Cable Landing Stations, and Backbone midpoint sites. The role covers physical ICT infrastructure design, facility and utility sizing, vendor coordination, project delivery, and site acceptance. It requires 20% to 30% travel based on project demand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before joining Meta.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing and constructing large-scale data centers or similar mission-critical infrastructure, including specifying suite-level space, power, cooling, and structured cabling connectivity requirements for network and compute hardware.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical projects.
  • Working knowledge of interpreting and analyzing electrical/mechanical single-line diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of regional data center electrical and cooling configurations, IEC and NEMA standards, AC/DC power concepts, and power redundancy scenarios.
  • General knowledge of fiber-optic components, structured cabling, pathways, interconnect products, technologies, and design concepts.
  • Understanding of engineering principles related to infrastructure architecture, including space layout, airflow, and cooling.
  • General knowledge of data center, colocation, and isolated hut environments, including power and infrastructure engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated field-based work experience in POPs, data centers, carrier-neutral facilities, or telecom exchanges.
  • Experience communicating and directing tasks with carriers and colocation vendors.
  • Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with global teams and demonstrated planning, prioritization, and communication skills; experience managing multiple tasks and adapting to changing business needs.
  • Ability to analyze technical situations, troubleshoot issues, and solve problems with limited supervision.
  • Working knowledge of internet networking technologies, including routing and switching concepts; optical transport technologies, including DWDM and optical transceivers; and network redundancy and failover concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, BIM 360, Procore, or similar tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize or redesign workflows and drive measurable impact, such as efficiency gains or quality improvements.
  • Data center design or relevant structured cabling design certifications, such as BICSI RCDD.
  • Experience implementing responsible, ethical AI practices, such as risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality and accuracy review.
  • Ongoing AI skill development, such as prompt/context engineering or agent orchestration, and awareness of emerging AI technologies.
  • Experience with ICT design and construction administration for hyperscale data centers and global backbone network capacity enablement.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with optical network design, installation, and maintenance for service providers or global enterprise networks.
  • Thorough knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, optical transport system operation, and IP backbone network technologies.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, BIM 360, Procore, or similar tools.
  • An advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure in Electrical or Mechanical disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, review, and optimize ICT physical infrastructure, including structured cabling systems, floor and rack layouts, network hardware placement, and integrated communications systems for large-scale data center and network deployments.
  • Develop and enforce Meta ICT design standards, best practices, and compliance with relevant industry standards such as TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, and BICSI.
  • Develop optimized floor plans for edge/backbone midpoint sites and allocate space to network functions, optical, backbone, IP, and compute.
  • Deliver timely engineering design packages for site infrastructure scope to sourcing and capacity planning teams.
  • Manage global space, power, cooling, structured cabling, and other inside-plant infrastructure delivery requirements for network deployments across owned and colocation facilities.
  • Engage in system-level facility sizing of utilities, switchgear, UPS/DC power plants, PDUs, mechanical cooling, and low-voltage power distribution.
  • Evaluate colocation provider facilities and recommend corrective actions to meet Meta’s standard design requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design and planning engineers on cage and data center network/compute infrastructure build-outs.
  • Lead weekly syncs with external colocation vendors and provide technical support and progress reporting on cage and suite build-outs and acceptance testing.
  • Manage and track project timelines and risks, and guide projects to on-time completion.
  • Lead site acceptance activities with colocation providers according to facility acceptance standards.
  • Prioritize and coordinate concurrent projects based on impact and deadlines, driving execution through vendors at scale.
  • Collaborate with Meta business and technical teams on space and power delivery, related deployment projects, and initiatives that may affect capacity delivery.
  • Update Meta’s internal tooling and data records for edge/backbone midpoint cage and suite build-outs.
  • Coordinate delivery of related Owner Furnished/Contractor Installed equipment from Meta inventory to colocation facilities.
  • Align with network planning and investment teams on roadmaps and material forecasting to support on-time project delivery.
