About The Position

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design and performance of the Luminate Broadband network. This position includes responsibility for network planning, documentation, and implementation of network elements. The Network Engineer will monitor network performance, assist the Luminate team in troubleshooting, and design solutions while handling a variety of projects with a high degree of complexity.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years supporting a broadband access network
  • Familiar with using packet capture tools (Wireshark, tcpdump), iperf, wireline simulators, traffic generators (STC, IXIA)
  • Experience in L3 routing protocols (OSPF/BGP), TCP/IP, VLAN, QoS/DSCP, VoIP (SIP/MGCP), and IGMP
  • Knowledge of 802.11(xx), SDN/SDA, MPLS, MEF, DHCP, AAA, Firewalls, NetFlow, SNMP, scripting, and Linux CentOS, VMware ESXi, and Linux

Nice To Haves

  • Calix, Juniper, Cisco and Adtran experience is a plus
  • CCNA, JNCIA, Network+, or Security+ certifications a plus

Responsibilities

  • Plan and design OSP and ISP infrastructure (OLT and GPON distribution areas)
  • Install, implement, administer, and troubleshoot network, element, and operating systems
  • Provide Tier II and Tier III technical support
  • Engineer, design and install Unified Communications (UC) and Hosted PBX networks for small, medium, and large commercial customers
  • Consult with vendors to resolve communications equipment and network system issues
  • Design technical solutions and coordinates system build activities for fixed wireless
  • Analyze network activity to discover and proactively prevent network issues
  • Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance
  • Works closely with management in developing procurement requirements and service contracts by providing technical support during contract bidding, negotiation, and award processes
  • Supports the COO in managing compliance and regulatory responsibilities
  • Provides general systems training to the Luminate team
  • Responsible for driving network-related maintenance activities, e.g., software and hardware upgrades
  • Test and validate all new hardware and connections for proper configuration and performance
  • As part of an on-call/standby rotation, respond to after-hours call-out for service restoration, troubleshooting, network testing and repair of all necessary equipment
  • Support resolution of issues escalated from Tier I support staff, working directly with users on timely resolution
  • Troubleshoot and repair PTMP RF equipment from the source to the customer's premise
  • Evaluate and analyze trouble tickets and produce various reports for management
  • Ability to quickly triage network issues and bring to resolution by assessing staff inputs, and creatively implementing workarounds or alternative methods
  • Ability to drive R&D projects and develop solutions to complex engineering problems as assigned
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively with little direct supervision and a sense of ownership
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong documentation skills for network diagrams, test plans and other related records
