About The Position

Under the direction of the Information Technology (IT) Division Head or Designated Official, perform a variety of expert level information technology duties in support of the City's core information systems with primary responsibility focused on complex configuration, maintenance and monitoring of Microsoft servers, VMWare, VDI, and Storage Area Networks (SAN), support business systems, IIS and SQL environments. This position may perform team lead duties, as needed. This is an AFSCME represented position. This recruitment is open until filled. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of college with an emphasis in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other relevant field AND six (6) years of work experience in systems administration with at least one (1) year of Information Systems Security experience.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license with a driving record that meets an acceptable standard for safety at the point of hire and throughout employment in this position.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent certification is required.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, desktop applications, Microsoft servers including Active Directory, VM/VDI, networking, network security, and wireless networks.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of network design and management.
  • Knowledge of system performance, security, reliability testing, and audits.
  • Knowledge of software delivery and design using MSI scripts and automated installs.
  • Knowledge of manipulation of peripherals (printers, fax machines, and copy machines) to promote system dependability and up time.
  • Knowledge of internet and intranet security environment.
  • Knowledge of systems backup and data recovery.
  • Knowledge of file transfer protocol access and set up.
  • Ability to effectively lead staff members in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
  • Ability to plan and organize work efficiently, as well as prioritize workload and department requests to meet schedules, commitments, and time lines.

Responsibilities

  • Advise management on best practices and policies related to systems security, operations, and maintenance of core systems and business applications; recommend and support the implementation of technical standards and policies; research hardware and software purchases and upgrades, computer products, and/or system conversions; and assist in providing budget information for IT infrastructure and services.
  • Support management in developing and maintaining an effective Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan; implement functions related to backup and disaster recovery policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Install computer hardware and software at the production server levels; record and track assets.
  • Actively champion a culture of and commitment to workplace safety through everyday actions and leadership.
  • Assist in securing and maintaining software license agreements; review existing licenses for renewal appropriateness and alternative options.
  • Administrate, troubleshoot, configure, and maintain the City’s Microsoft Active Directory, Servers, VMWare/VDI, SAN storage, and backup systems and related hardware and software; perform and maintain daily backups of the network infrastructure and maintain documentation of backups.
  • Assist in implementation and measures to maintain enterprise-wide security and reliability of the City’s systems and applications; establish high level of systems monitoring and security practices; proactively implement best security policies, detection, and response systems; track, monitor, and diagnose server security issues; participate in the design and execution of risk and vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and security audits.
  • May assist in and/or lead the day-to-day operations of the Network and Helpdesk services; function as backup to the IT Network Administrator; on occasion may be assigned shift work or call out support.
  • Troubleshoot systems infrastructure including Active Directory/user accounts, core servers, storage systems, internet information services (IIS) and support structured query language (SQL) server maintenance and its related applications software, tape backup, and other related services; support IT staff as needed in Helpdesk ticket resolution for users.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
