About The Position

Under general direction of the Supervisor-IT Network Operations, the Network Administrator is responsible for managing and monitoring of the Network Infrastructure and Network Solutions for EPE’s corporate network to include WAN, LAN, WLAN, VPN, and their cybersecurity posture. Participate in all activities for planning, designing, configuring, implementing, administering and troubleshooting network systems and for providing support to complex network issues. Analyze network capacity issues and assist with developing capacity planning models. Implement planned testing activities. Collaborate with peers and consultants to develop network security guidelines. Support legacy and state of the art networking deployments, maintenance, monitoring, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Associates’ Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Technology, Engineering Technology, or related Information Technology field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 0-5 or more years of experience
  • Experience with Cisco IOS configuration, routing protocols and network security using Access Control Lists.
  • Experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 theories and best practices when designing and implementing enterprise network environments, including Spanning-Tree, dynamic routing protocols, VTP, ether channel protocols, load-balancing protocols, and dynamic routing protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise-grade Cisco routers, switches, security appliances and firewalls on highly critical environments.
  • Hands-on experience implementing, managing and troubleshooting Wi-Fi (802.11) networks
  • Knowledge of network routing protocols including EIGRP, BGP and OSPF.
  • Knowledge and experience with enterprise system monitoring, IPS/IDS, SIEM and management tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, DHCP & DNS Services, Network Policy and Access Services, and Routing and Remote Access Services.
  • Experience with maintaining enterprise-grade VPN solutions such as Cisco VPN, Cisco AnyConnect, and OpenVPN.
  • Knowledge of network authentication protocols such as RADIUS, TACACS.
  • Knowledge and experience with copper and fiber optic cabling standards, CAT6A, OM4, OS2.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with officers, managers, supervisors, fellow employees, representatives of other agencies, consultants and the public.
  • Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and extra hours when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Network Architecture Design:  Assists with the Planning, researching, designing and evaluating activities for network to develop a compatible network infrastructure in line with organizational strategies to include contributing to the research of networking requirements; architectural and installation plans, evaluating new network hardware and software products, and validating network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
  • Network Planning and Implementation: Analyzes facilities bandwidth requirements and system interdependencies. Develops capacity planning models, conducts internal studies of network performance and traffic analysis, assists with the design and implementation of network systems, and conducts short- and long-term planning to meet network requirements.
  • Network Administration and Monitoring:  Administers EPE’s Network infrastructure within the organization, including the physical network (e.g., WAN/LAN, Firewalls, servers). Configures, installs, maintains and upgrades network hardware and software, analyzes network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors responsible for installation, configuration and administration of Network management, monitoring & analysis tools  administers and maintains security of network devices performs recovery procedures, scheduling configuration and software backups, and monitors batch processes and ensures planned testing activities are performed and technical criteria are met.
  • Network Security:  Validates that Network security architecture/designs, plans, controls, processes, standards, policies and procedures are aligned with cybersecurity standards and best practices, applies network security guidelines regarding firewall maintenance and rule setting, intrusion detection, filter creation and malware scanning. Ensures appropriate encryption requirements are applied, performs Network security risk assessments and compliance audits. Evaluates and tests hardware, firmware and software for possible impact on system security, and the investigation and resolution of security incidents, administers and monitors perimeter security systems such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems, applies, tests, implements and validates solutions to remediate exploitable conditions on devices such as servers, switches, routers, firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Issue Resolution:  Provides support and resolution for network connectivity or related network issues for EPE’s corporate network, collaborates with end users, software systems engineering and/or application development in order to restore service and/or identify problems, participates in On-Call rotation during evenings and weekends.
  • NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Compliance: Ensures that identified critical cyber asset systems comply with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP standards and internal policies to prevent incidents that may compromise or degrade the infrastructure, and maintaining proper change management documentation for all hardware and software modifications.
  • IT Asset Management:  Investigates available hardware and software products, evaluates and recommends products based on user requirements, reviews licenses and/or contracts to ensure that hardware and software equipment is covered by the contract and properly documented.
  • IT Outsourcing and Vendor Management:  Assists with evaluating services provided by vendors and recommends changes.  Recommends which IT activities to outsource in order to lower information technology costs and enable the organization to focus on its core business operations
  • Other: Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations, and perform other related tasks that are not included, but are within the context of the duties defined.
