About The Position

Neonatologists are crucial for newborns in the first hours of life, requiring the ability to assess changing situations and act proactively. This role involves leading the care for premature and critically ill infants, supporting families during vulnerable times, and setting the standard for a high-acuity neonatal team. The physician's judgment will significantly impact infant survival, neurodevelopmental outcomes, and the confidence of families leaving the unit.

Requirements

  • MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
  • Active state medical license, or eligibility to obtain one before start, and DEA registration.
  • Demonstrated independent management of ELBW infants, complex respiratory disease, and delivery-room resuscitation.
  • NRP instructor or current NRP provider status with a record of leading codes.
  • Clear communication with families and multidisciplinary teams under time pressure.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, teaching, and evidence-based neonatal practice.

Nice To Haves

  • You will practice in a Level III or IV NICU with 24/7 respiratory therapy, neonatal nursing, and pediatric subspecialty consults.
  • Expect a collaborative medical team, protected time for family meetings and documentation, and access to current guidelines, simulation, and quality data.
  • You report to the neonatal medical director and work closely with nursing leadership.
  • Staffing support helps you focus on clinical work rather than administrative friction.

Responsibilities

  • Direct care for a defined NICU panel to ensure infants meet gestational-age benchmarks for survival, growth, and discharge readiness.
  • Lead resuscitation and stabilization of high-risk deliveries, including extreme prematurity and complex congenital conditions, with clear command of the room.
  • Build and execute evidence-based plans for respiratory failure, sepsis, nutrition, and neurologic risk, and adjust them as clinical data change.
  • Reduce preventable harm by owning infection, medication, and line-safety practices on your service and closing gaps you identify.
  • Counsel families in plain language, secure shared decisions, and document goals of care that the full team can follow.
  • Teach residents, NNPs, and nurses at the bedside so protocols are applied consistently across shifts.
  • Participate in quality review and translate findings into practice changes that improve length of stay, readmission, or complication rates.

Benefits

  • Protected time for family meetings and documentation
  • Access to current guidelines, simulation, and quality data
  • Staffing support
