Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (NNPs/PAs) - PRN
About The Position
Fairfax Neonatal Associates (FNA) is seeking experienced Neonatal Advanced Practice Providers (Neonatal Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) to join our team in a PRN capacity. This opportunity is ideal for neonatal APPs seeking a flexible schedule while continuing to make a meaningful impact in the care of critically ill and premature newborns. Join our respected, collaborative clinical team while maintaining flexibility in your schedule. This position supports our experienced neonatal team on an as-needed schedule, working out of Inova Children’s Hospital NICU in Falls Church, Virginia. Scheduling is based on staffing needs, patient volume and PRN availability. Availability for day, night, weekend, or holiday coverage may be requested based on operational needs. Shifts may vary by scheduling period. Scheduling expectations and needs will be reviewed during the interview process.
Requirements
- A deep understanding of neonatal pathophysiology and how it applies to a premature or sick newborn.
- An understanding of ventilatory management in the NICU.
- Up to date neonatal resuscitation skills.
- Strong clinical skills in neonatal-perinatal medicine and critical care procedures.
- Ability to interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic tests.
- Excellent communication, leadership, teamwork, and family-centered care skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records documentation and basic computer applications. EPIC Preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented NICU environment.
- Board Certification in Nursing and Board Certified as a Neonatal-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with NICU experience.
- VA Nursing license, VA APP license, DEA Certificate, NRP Certification, BLS Certification
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in Level IV NICU(s).

Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage NICU patient care in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and families.
- Provide family-centered care, patient education, discharge guidance, and specialist referrals.
- Communicate patient updates, significant clinical changes, and care plans with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Document patient progress, treatment plans, and clinical information accurately in EPIC.
- Perform neonatal procedures including intubation, umbilical lines, PICC insertions, thoracentesis, and moderate sedation.
- Deliver detailed patient handoffs/sign-outs to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection control protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.
Benefits
- $105.00 per hour.
- Shift differential pay available for eligible shifts worked.
