About The Position

The Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Operator uses part-specific work instructions to calibrate UT equipment and measure casting wall thickness. Data point templates are used to mark data locations on castings, and the data is reviewed by the UT operator for acceptance or rejection of the castings' wall thickness. Acceptable parts must be degreased, dried, and moved to the next routed operation. Rejected parts are cleaned and moved to MRB pending. Recorded data must be saved in the Windows XL data program for engineering review. This position will also train in other NDT techniques once fully trained in UT and when business dictates need. The role involves performing ultrasonic inspections of metal stainless steel/nickel-based alloy/cobalt-based alloy investment castings for wall thickness measurements.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, general standard procedures, and part specific work instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, inspection manuals and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and make decisions based on all available information.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Close vision with at least Snellen 20/25 in one eye corrected or non-corrected.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Candidates shall be able to complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on the job training.
  • Passing a general exam, specific exam, and practical exam is required for certification.
  • Will also train in other NDT techniques once fully trained in UT and when business dictates need.

Responsibilities

  • Mark product with data point locations.
  • Operate foot pedal to store data in software program.
  • Review data for out of tolerance readings.
  • Clean product when test has been completed.
  • Complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on the job training.
  • Pass a general exam, specific exam, and practical exam for certification.
