About The Position

Chromalloy is a global engineering & solutions company that provides aftermarket parts, repairs, and solutions to extend the life of aircraft engines and gas turbines. We develop, manufacture, and repair critical turbine components for various engine platforms, supporting the aerospace, energy, and defense industries. This role involves using ultrasonic testing (UT) equipment to measure casting wall thickness according to specific work instructions. The UT operator calibrates equipment, marks data locations, records data, and reviews it for accept or reject decisions. Acceptable parts are cleaned and moved to the next operation, while rejected parts are cleaned and moved to MRB pending. Data must be saved in a Windows XL data program for engineering review. This position also offers training in other NDT techniques when business needs dictate.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on the job training.
  • Passing a general exam, specific exam, and practical exam is required for certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, general standard procedures, and part specific work instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, inspection manuals and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and make decisions based on all available information.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision with at least Snellen 20/25 in one eye corrected or non-corrected.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to talk or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must wear eye (safety glasses), foot (steel toes), and hearing protection (ear buds).
  • Only US persons (U.S. citizen, U.S. naturalized citizen, U.S. permanent resident, holder of U.S. approved political asylee or refugee status) may be considered for this role.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen in accordance with company policy and applicable federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform UT Equipment calibrations.
  • Mark product with data point locations.
  • Operate foot pedal to store data in software program.
  • Review data for out of tolerance readings.
  • Clean product when test has been completed.
  • Calibrate and use ultrasonic testing equipment to measure casting wall thickness.
  • Grade castings against parts specific UT work instruction for dimensional requirements.
  • Record data for engineering review.
  • Separate non-conforming product and move good product to next routed operation.
  • Perform ultrasonic inspections of metal stainless steel/nickel-based alloy/cobalt-based alloy investment castings for wall thickness measurements.
  • Train in other NDT techniques once fully trained in UT and when business dictates need.
