About The Position

Barnhart is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector to support our crane inspection operations in Western Canada. This role is responsible for performing comprehensive inspections on cranes and rigging equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of heavy lift equipment across a variety of crane types, including all-terrain, crawler, truck-mounted, and rough-terrain cranes. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and thrives in a field-based environment with extensive travel and client interaction. Requirements

  • CGSB Level II MPI (MT) certification
  • CWB Visual 1 (CSA W178.2) Welding Inspector certification
  • Working knowledge of CSA Z150 safety standards
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including 2–3 week field rotations

Nice To Haves

  • Inspecting multiple crane types, including all-terrain, crawler, truck-mounted, and rough-terrain cranes
  • Crane inspection or heavy equipment environments
  • Additional NDT methods (UT, PT, RT)
  • Technologist diploma in a related engineering or scientific field

Responsibilities

  • Perform magnetic particle (MPI) and visual inspections on cranes and rigging equipment
  • Conduct detailed inspections in accordance with CSA Z150 and applicable industry standards
  • Evaluate weld quality, structural integrity, and compliance with governing codes
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection documentation, and peer reviews
  • Coordinate repair activities with maintenance teams and perform re-inspections on repaired equipment.
  • Travel extensively across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and additional locations as required
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support client satisfaction and business growth
  • Provide technical expertise to support the expansion of NDE service offerings
