About The Position

Performs fluorescent penetrant processing of investment castings. This role involves processing product through degreasing and cleaning, and then through the FPI processing line. The technician must be able to follow FPI general standard procedures and pass a specific eye exam. The position requires processing parts according to customer-specific technique sheets and customer processing requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be able to follow FPI general standard procedures.
  • Must pass eye exam and have 20/25 Snellen in at least one eye.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be certifiable to NAS 410 Level I PT.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of hoists or equipment designed for that purpose or with the assistance of other personnel as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to distinguish between colors, as defined by NAS 410.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent in life experience.
  • 16 hours of formal classroom training to Chromalloy Castings GSP QD-001 FPI Level I Training Outlines or at least equivalent.
  • 130 hours of documented OJT (Work Experience) in Penetrant testing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs fluorescent penetrant processing of investment castings.
  • Selects work to be inspected based on supervisor's instructions and loads parts into baskets on a conveyor.
  • Verifies completion and sign-off of previous paperwork and ensures it matches the parts to be inspected.
  • Inspects parts according to the IMRS, determining whether to accept or reject them.
  • Consults the technique book for process procedures specific to the parts being handled.
  • Degreases, cleans, and thoroughly dries parts according to the required degreasing procedure.
  • Dips parts baskets into penetrant.
  • After the specified dwell time, washes parts with water and emulsifier as per instructions on technique sheets.
  • Uses a hoist to lift baskets and moves them along the conveyor, placing them in the dryer.
  • Operates the dryer for the period specified in the technique sheets.
  • After the drying cycle, places parts in the developer for the required technique time.
  • Removes parts from the developer and tags them with 'time into the developer time tags' to monitor maximum allowed developer dwell per technique instructions.
  • Post-cleans degreased parts after Level II interpretation is completed.
  • Places parts on a rack and moves them to the next workstation according to the routing sheet instructions.
  • Maintains 6S cleaning standards and performs maintenance on FPI equipment and processing lines.
