About The Position

S&ME is seeking a dedicated NDT/NDE Technician for their Metals team in Wilmington, North Carolina. This role involves ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects by visually inspecting structural steel, including bolted and welded connections. Fieldwork may require climbing steel structures to heights exceeding 200 feet, utilizing fall protection equipment. The position involves conducting inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic inspection (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds. Responsibilities include managing testing assignments, maintaining and calibrating equipment, and creating detailed reports. This role may require working over 50 hours per week during peak times, as well as off-shift and weekend work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an Associate's degree in a closely related field
  • Active industry-related certifications: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or working towards it, AMPP Coating Inspector Level I or II, Achievement of ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
  • Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training
  • Experience with the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems
  • ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT certification
  • Level II for PT, MT certifications

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect structural steel, including bolted and welded connections.
  • Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods to uphold quality standards.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) duties such as ultrasonic inspection (UT) of welds and/or magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
  • Manage testing assignments across projects.
  • Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration, including managing field and laboratory equipment inventories, formal calibration records, and participating in quality systems audits.
  • Craft detailed reports to communicate findings.
