The purpose of the career coach is to cultivate programs and services for the high school learner, so that the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career path. This role involves supporting high school outreach, coordinating events, advising students, providing support services, and engaging with workforce development. High School Outreach Responsibilities include supporting outreach efforts to raise career awareness, assisting with enrollment in college programs, coordinating events, preparing information for students and parents, following a communication plan, and organizing campus tours. Advising responsibilities involve maintaining contact with advisees using a proactive model, assisting with academic/career advising, maintaining student records for reporting, providing information on course needs, and staying knowledgeable about educational pathways and community workforce development resources. The role also requires adherence to NACADA core values and competencies. Support Services include acquainting oneself with collaborators on the NC Career Coach Advisory Board, providing interventions for student success, assisting with policy and procedure communication, conducting workshops, and recommending procedures for compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Workforce Engagement Responsibilities involve developing professional relationships with business and industry leaders to stay informed about career opportunities, and coordinating with local businesses to offer students opportunities to learn about career availability. This also includes coordinating industry tours to expose students to various career pathways.
