About The Position

The purpose of the career coach is to cultivate programs and services for the high school learner, so that the individual can successfully enter and advance in a career path. This role involves supporting high school outreach, coordinating events, advising students, providing support services, and engaging with workforce development. High School Outreach Responsibilities include supporting outreach efforts to raise career awareness, assisting with enrollment in college programs, coordinating events, preparing information for students and parents, following a communication plan, and organizing campus tours. Advising responsibilities involve maintaining contact with advisees using a proactive model, assisting with academic/career advising, maintaining student records for reporting, providing information on course needs, and staying knowledgeable about educational pathways and community workforce development resources. The role also requires adherence to NACADA core values and competencies. Support Services include acquainting oneself with collaborators on the NC Career Coach Advisory Board, providing interventions for student success, assisting with policy and procedure communication, conducting workshops, and recommending procedures for compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Workforce Engagement Responsibilities involve developing professional relationships with business and industry leaders to stay informed about career opportunities, and coordinating with local businesses to offer students opportunities to learn about career availability. This also includes coordinating industry tours to expose students to various career pathways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • Two years’ experience in the field of education
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality
  • Commitment to the learning/student-centered environments
  • Working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague, preferred
  • Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of career services
  • Knowledge and practical application of student/career development theory
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of the student experience to include coaching, mentoring, academic/career advising, student/career services and progression
  • Possess excellent skills for planning, organizing, and implementing new initiatives.
  • Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain positive/collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, peers, etc.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral) in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and relevant applications, and internet platforms.
  • Possess a working knowledge of secondary and postsecondary education.
  • Independently perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Enthusiasm to foster a collaborative team-based work environment with a willingness to see tasks through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Support outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in enrollment of high school learners on the college level.
  • Support students’ efforts for career pathways.
  • Coordinate events designed to promote awareness of career pathways.
  • Work with high school/college personnel to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents.
  • Follow a communication plan to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, etc.
  • Organize college campus tours.
  • Maintain contact with select advisees using a proactive advising model.
  • Assist with academic/career advising for high school learners.
  • Maintain accurate and adequate student records to assist in the annual mandatory reporting required by the grant.
  • Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students.
  • Responsible for knowledge of information related to High School, Community Colleges, Universities, Military Pathways policies and procedures as well as information related to community workforce development resources to provide students with timely information and guidance, assisting students in making informed decisions.
  • Maintain compliance with NACADA core values and competencies for academic advising.
  • Responsible for acquainting themselves with the roles of collaborators in the high school through the NC Career Coach Advisory Board.
  • Provide supportive interventions to help students succeed in high school/college courses; provide academic success strategies to facilitate successful transition into college environment.
  • Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to students and parents.
  • Conduct workshops and classroom visits with enrolled students at the high school and enhanced partnership to inform and instruct the students concerning Pathways requirements.
  • Recommend procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, e.g., coordination ADA & IDEA, and FERPA, etc.
  • Develop professional relationships with business and industry leaders to remain knowledgeable about the careers available for graduates entering the workforce.
  • Coordinate with local business leaders to offer high school learners’ opportunities to learn about career availability in the service area.
  • Coordinate tours with local industries to expose students to various career pathways.
