About The Position

The Career Coach (EARN) is a non-exempt position responsible for providing support and assistance to program participants in all areas related to gaining and/or retaining employment and career advancement. This role requires an individual comfortable in a constantly evolving environment, capable of efficiently handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously and working independently. Significant documentation is required, demanding accuracy, organization, and meticulous attention to detail, including spelling and punctuation. The position involves intensive computer work, requiring advanced proficiency in Excel and data entry, with the ability to meet strict deadlines. The Career Coach must be able to interpret and apply State Guidelines to case management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in social work, criminal justice, or other experience in human services.
  • Human services experience working with returning citizens, mental health or employment programs and career counseling experience.
  • Notable experience working in a team environment.
  • Two years’ customer service experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and document visits and contacts in an organized and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated excellence in video conferencing, telephone, computer, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility as needs of contract or contractor.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Some experience in using creative software such as ADOBE.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach to all individuals referred to the EARN Program from the County Assistance Office, documenting outreach attempts in internal trackers and the state data system, and communicating any issues concerning contact with referrals to the County Assistance Office.
  • Schedule one-on-one meetings with referred clients to complete enrollment into the EARN Program, offering transportation and other accommodations as needed.
  • Conduct intake assessments to create Individual Employment Plans to guide customers on their path to employment in accordance with PA Master Guidelines.
  • Build professional one-on-one working relationships with participants to aid in eliminating challenges that are hindrances to obtaining and retaining employment, including assessment, individualized attention, and coordination.
  • Maintain daily contact with caseload to document customer activities.
  • Empathize with customers experiencing life challenges while maintaining a solution-oriented approach, catering support according to needs.
  • Effectively communicate outreach to customers serviced remotely through various forms of technology, including phone, email, text, and internet-based applications.
  • Maintain a solution-oriented approach to help customers overcome barriers to employment.
  • Provide referrals and follow up to appropriate community partners or social service agencies when needed, and data enter referrals as mandated in PA Master Guidelines.
  • Encourage customers to participate in and follow through with planned activities.
  • Manage customer attendance and create solutions to attendance problems.
  • Submit weekly recorded timesheets as directed by the EARN Program Manager.
  • Assist in updating and creating resumes, cover letters, and thank you letters.
  • Provide intensive one-on-one job search assistance for clients.
  • Assist clients in the computer lab with PA CareerLink® Montgomery County and Digital Intake, when needed.
  • Follow up with customers to verify and document job placement status.
  • Enter detailed case narratives immediately after any and all communication or attempt at communication with a client that accurately describes the client’s interaction with the EARN Program (all case narratives MUST be completed in real time).
  • Use detailed case narratives to document the submission and completion of paperwork, communication with the CAO, all client activities, time and attendance, and next steps (all case narratives MUST be completed in real time).
  • Maintain participant files as specified by State guidelines and the Local Workforce Board.
