About The Position

Weir Marine Engineering is looking for a Naval Technologist / Specialist with current or former experience in naval warfare and naval equipment operations to join their Combat and Control Systems (CCS) team at the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre (CFMWC). This permanent position based in Halifax, NS, involves providing Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) services, including liaison with naval projects and equipment managers, conducting at-sea tests, technical investigations, and validating system performance and tactics effectiveness, particularly for the introduction of the River Class Destroyer (RCD). The role requires sound organizational knowledge and previous work experience with the Royal Canadian Navy, emphasizing a collaborative approach with stakeholders in Naval Force Development. The work environment is a combination of office and occasional alongside shipboard settings, with potential for short travel to other test locations.

Requirements

  • Eligible to obtain Government of Canada security clearance of Level II.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and quality.
  • Proficiency in written English is essential, including technical and operational content for a wide audience.
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors and clients.
  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent from military training) with at-sea experience in naval operations including as a Director level Naval Warfare Officer (NWO).

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidate with Operations Room Officer (ORO) experience.
  • Familiar with Naval Operational Test & Evaluation procedures.
  • Operational knowledge of military shipboard systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and support technical, tactical and operational investigations as directed by the applicable CFMWC Section.
  • Develop, modify, support & validate related documentation and information with multiple equipment Subject Matter Experts (SME).
  • Provide validation support for in-service, minor and major capital projects.
  • Provide technical and operational advice and support to SMEs concerning tactical issues and procedures.
  • Coordinate testing and trials activities for new and legacy equipment for equipment and weapons systems fitted in ships.
  • Manage and coordinate Test & Evaluation activities related to the performance of naval operational equipment and weapons.
  • Lead, support and validate complex test and evaluation activities, providing guidance and assistance to DND projects as required.
