About The Position

Everforth ECS is seeking a remote Naval Architect / Marine Engineer to lead the technical design, development, and integration of commercial and governmental marine vessels. The role has technical ownership of Ship Work Breakdown Structure (SWBS) Groups 100 (Hull Structure), 200 (Propulsion), and 500 (Auxiliary Systems), including quality control and responsibility for ensuring work meets project requirements. The Professional Engineer (PE) reviews, verifies, and stamps design packages, calculations, and specifications as needed for classification societies and flag state authorities. The position maps end-user requirements to systems and engineering methods, coordinates integration with other SWBS leads, and supports vessel design, shipyard construction, commissioning, and in-service modifications or drydockings. It includes ensuring compliance with project specifications, classification requirements, and maritime regulations; reviewing designs and incorporating changes; and preparing and presenting technical materials for audiences ranging from technical teams to senior executives. Some travel may be required. Specific technical work includes designing and evaluating hull forms, scantlings, and foundations; evaluating conceptual ship-system designs and identifying work needed for detailed or production design; performing finite element analysis and first-principle calculations; managing weight monitoring and structural evaluation to maintain intact and damage stability; and developing system drawings with assistance from CAD drafters.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field; the specific functional qualifications also list a PE in Structural or Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5–20+ years of progressive maritime or heavy industrial engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 2D/3D CAD and CAE/FEA software suites.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proven ability to communicate clearly with engineering leadership and waterfront trades.
  • Ability to communicate with personnel at varying levels of technical expertise, work independently, and coordinate with remote team members and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • ShipConstructor experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with lifting appliances, structural design, or hybrid propulsion is a plus.

  • Support the design spiral, shipyard construction, commissioning, and in-service modifications and drydockings.
  • Ensure designs meet project specifications, classification requirements, and maritime regulatory standards, including ABS, DNV, and USCG requirements.
  • Conduct design reviews, incorporate feedback, and implement modifications to accommodate scope changes.
  • Develop and present technical materials to audiences at various levels, including senior executives.
  • Design and evaluate hull forms, scantlings, and foundations.
