About The Position

Language Trainers is an international language training company seeking a freelance Navajo language tutor for an online, one-to-one course. The student is a 65-year-old gentleman in Canberra, Australia (AEST), with an elementary level of Navajo. The course will consist of 10 one-hour sessions, conducted via Zoom video-conference. The schedule is flexible, with options for Sunday at 8 AM, Saturday at 8 AM, or Wednesday at 12 noon (Australian Eastern Standard Time). The student's motivation stems from a love of Native American cultures, an interest in WWII code talkers, and a desire to challenge his brain by learning new skills and exploring the complexity of Diné Bizaad.

Requirements

  • Native Navajo speaker and/or hold a relevant teaching qualification.
  • Experience as a language teacher, translator, or interpreter.
  • Comfortable teaching online.
  • Own device with access to a quiet space and reliable, fast internet connection.
  • Availability for sessions on Sunday at 8 AM, Saturday at 8 AM, or Wednesday at 12 noon (AEST).
  • Ability to provide CV with references.
  • Ability to provide availability and earliest possible start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customized language training to a professional and private student.
  • Conduct one-to-one online Navajo language lessons.
  • Adapt teaching methods to the student's elementary level and motivations.
  • Utilize Zoom video-conference for all sessions.
  • Manage a schedule of one session per week for a total of 10 hours.
  • Communicate availability and earliest possible start date to Language Trainers.
