About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt seasonal position providing technical support in Integrated Weed Management (IWM). The role involves identifying noxious weeds, conducting field surveys, and implementing various control measures including herbicide applications, biological control, mechanical treatments, and manual removal. Additionally, the technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and safely operating vehicles and equipment, and supporting fencing projects through material handling, post installation, wire stretching, and related labor. The position also includes performing other duties to support overall natural resource and range objectives for the Land and Range Department in Nespelem, WA.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) and a satisfactory work history.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance, maintained throughout employment.
  • Washington State Department of Agriculture Pesticide/Operator license with an Ag Weed Endorsement (or ability to acquire within 90 days of employment).
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide technical expertise to all Reservation landowners, livestock owners and Agency branches on all Range Program matters.
  • Skills to effectively communicate to the general public, other co-workers and crew.
  • Ability to do (IWM) spraying for noxious weeds.
  • Ability to construct and repair fences.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively handle adverse situations, making appropriate decisions, working calmly, and accurately.
  • Ability to follow applicable regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to use standard laboratory and field equipment (such as herbicide application equipment).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use all equipment associated with this position (herbicide equipment, fencing tools, GPS, etc.).
  • Ability to work closely with co-workers.
  • Must be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain.
  • Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 45 lbs. while hiking in steep terrain.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain project equipment such as 4-wheel drive vehicle, ATV, tractor, chainsaw, and power equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate trucks and trailers; backing up, loading, and unloading equipment off the trailers.
  • Ability to handle and carry fence materials, sometimes over long distances.

  • Previous experience and knowledge of building or repairing fences.
