About The Position

To perform a full range of maintenance and moderately skilled trade tasks in areas such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, masonry, road maintenance, landscaping, mechanical repairs, etc. at Department of Environmental Management facilities, grounds, and properties; and to do related work as required. This role involves general maintenance tasks at facilities and properties owned by or under the control of the Department of Environmental Management, including but not limited to mowing lawns, raking, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, moving furniture, brush cutting, planting shrubs, transplanting, cutting, and pruning. The technician will also operate and make minor repairs of light equipment and vehicles such as trucks, tractors, mowing machinery, chainsaws, boats, and related equipment, as assigned. Moderately skilled maintenance and/or construction work including rough carpentry, painting, masonry, minor electrical, mechanical, or plumbing repairs are also part of the duties. The position assists with the development and maintenance of public access facilities like informational signs, kiosks, check stations, roads, parking areas, beaches, lawns, picnic areas, campsites, restrooms, bike paths, trails, fences, gates, water control structures, fishways, dams, and equipment storage facilities. Support for pheasant stocking, check station operation, fish stocking, and biological programs is also required, along with snow plowing and salt sanding during and after weather events.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and processes involved in trades related to general building and grounds maintenance
  • A working knowledge of the operation of mechanical equipment
  • A working knowledge of the use of common tools and materials
  • The ability to make varied repairs without supervision
  • The ability to supervise a small group of workers or volunteers
  • The ability to work from pencil sketches and diagrams
  • A minimum of 2 years of high school
  • Employment for at least two years in the field of building and grounds maintenance or a related field, with experience in landscaping, general maintenance, and at least two of the building, electrical or mechanical trades.
  • Physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate
  • Possess a current driver license
