About The Position

The Natural Resources Coordinator manages all phases of the Snake River Management Plan (SRMP) and oversees management of undeveloped open space lands acquired by Teton County that fall outside the traditional park setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • 3 years of progressive experience in comprehensive natural resource management, natural resources project or program management, or conservation planning is required.
  • Must possess or ability to obtain a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Certified Natural Resources Professional (NREP) or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) is required to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Strong understanding of natural resources program management related to natural resources and the ability to manage programs in their entirety, including administrative duties, supervision of staff, customer service, and budget management.
  • Strong understanding of environmental field work, ecological principles, restoration techniques, and land stewardship practices.
  • Knowledge of native plant communities, wildlife ecology, soil conservation, and hydrology.
  • Familiarity with applicable environmental regulations and industry standards related to natural resource management of undeveloped lands. (e.g., NEPA, ESA, Clean Water Act).
  • Project management principles, practices, and methods, environmental permitting, and grant administration.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports and other professional documents and correspondence.
  • Following established protocols and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Interacting tactfully and professionally with County and Town staff, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Working efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintaining composure in stressful situations.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork in diverse and challenging environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Administers all aspects of the 2024 Snake River Management Plan, including summer seasonal staffing onboarding and supervision, annual permitting, budget tracking, customer service, and implementation.
  • Works in conjunction with easement holders and community stakeholders to conduct and/or coordinate habitat assessments, invasive species monitoring, vegetation management, and restoration projects.
  • Provides recommendations for the implementation of passive development.
  • Monitors and enforces conservation easements, land use agreements, and ecological performance standards in conjunction with stakeholders and easement holders.
  • Coordinates with local, state, and federal agencies, as necessary, on permits, compliance, and environmental regulations.
  • Serves as a technical advisor in the area of resource conservation.
  • Plans and conducts public outreach, interpretive programming, and educational initiatives for open lands owned by Teton County, prepares and presents staff reports, and workshops to the Teton County Board of County Commissioners.
  • Serves as a liaison for the Parks Division and coordinates with other County Departments in the area of resource management.
  • Supports parks operations in both summer and winter to ensure service levels are met related to parks, pathways, special events, snow removal, and general operations.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
