About The Position

This role is for one of the Weekday's clients. We are seeking a senior sales leader to head national sales, distributor management, and trade marketing for the biscuits and confectionery category across all channels in Nigeria. This role is responsible for driving both primary and secondary sales performance by developing category-led strategies, strengthening distribution networks, and unlocking growth across geographies and channels. The position involves leading a large, multi-layered sales team, shaping route-to-market strategies, and ensuring execution excellence through strong operational discipline. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on leadership to deliver consistent growth, optimize trade investments, and build a high-performing sales organization aligned with business objectives.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in FMCG sales with strong exposure to biscuits, confectionery, or similar categories
  • Proven track record of driving large-scale sales growth and managing multi-region operations
  • Strong expertise in trade marketing, distributor management, and route-to-market strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and scale high-performing sales teams
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate market insights into actionable growth plans
  • Strong understanding of wholesale and general trade channels in competitive markets
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Data-driven approach with experience in sales analytics, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Ability to operate in high-pressure environments while maintaining execution excellence
  • Strong business acumen with a focus on revenue growth, profitability, and operational efficiency

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category-specific sales strategies aligned with geography, channel, and pricing opportunities
  • Own end-to-end sales targets including primary and secondary volumes, distribution expansion, and KPI achievement
  • Drive trade marketing initiatives, promotions, and trade spend optimization to maximize offtake and visibility
  • Strengthen distributor management by improving order processes, inventory management, and supply efficiency
  • Optimize route-to-market strategies through outlet mapping, coverage expansion, and productivity improvements
  • Lead and coach regional sales teams, building capability and ensuring high performance across levels
  • Establish strong sales processes, reporting systems, and performance tracking mechanisms
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including supply chain, logistics, finance, and marketing for seamless execution
  • Drive forecasting, demand planning, and participation in S&OP processes to ensure stock availability
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to refine sales strategies
