About The Position

The Council of State Governments (CSG) is seeking a National Membership Engagement Specialist to build and maintain positive relationships to increase member participation and satisfaction. This role, reporting to the Senior Director of National Membership Engagement, involves managing various departmental functions, including addressing member inquiries, coordinating events, gathering feedback, and monitoring engagement metrics. The position requires a self-motivated, positive, and detail-oriented professional capable of managing multiple projects and tasks effectively. This opportunity is based in our Lexington, KY office but offers flexibility to work from home part of the work week.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as an Administrative Coordinator or similar position.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and competence to work effectively with a myriad of leaders, including internal departments, funders, and interested stakeholders.
  • Experience using databases and project management systems.
  • Superior organizational skills and judgment, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently; self-motivated, able to take initiative and see complex tasks through to completion, often with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to oversee the complete process for meeting and event planning.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Ability to exercise exceptional judgment with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to think critically, synthesize information from a variety of sources, work collaboratively or independently as required, prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and effectively carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to be flexible with shifting deadlines and priorities.
  • Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds.

  • Experience with or in federal or state government, event management, association management, non-profit organizations, public administration or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for member inquiries, providing high-level customer service and engaging appropriate resources within CSG.
  • Correspond directly with members via in-person, phone, and email to address questions, gather information, and discuss CSG projects.
  • Manage complex travel arrangements, focusing on cost management, and produce detailed itineraries for CSG officers, leadership, and members.
  • Maintain and update member records, conduct member surveys for feedback, and utilize data to refine the organization's value proposition.
  • Independently plan, coordinate, and manage the logistics for meetings, potentially including travel for onsite support.
  • Act as a CSG ambassador at conferences and meetings, engaging with members and staff to promote the organization's mission and values.
  • Produce presentations for the team and leadership as requested.
  • Coordinate the application, selection, and post-selection processes for CSG programs.
  • Actively participate on a dynamic team, contributing a "can do" attitude and attention to detail.
  • Consistently exceed expectations by recognizing and following through on opportunities to add value to the team.
