  • Strong understanding of Canadian business and the economy.
  • Collaborative leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with reporters, editors, and newsroom leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Work with regional bureau chiefs to identify priorities and compile a daily schedule of stories.
  • Monitor sister publications for business and economic coverage with national resonance.
  • Direct a team of reporters in Ontario and Quebec covering regional economies, including sectors like automotive and critical minerals.
  • Set coverage priorities, develop story ideas, assign and direct daily stories, and provide constructive editing.
  • Contribute to video, podcast, and other multimedia offerings.
  • Help develop and oversee new editorial products, such as newsletters and in-person events, in Ontario and Quebec.
  • Maintain high editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, insight, and relevance in regional coverage.
  • Collaborate with regional bureau chiefs and senior editors to build national editorial franchises.
  • Contribute to the broader leadership of the newsroom, assisting the senior editorial team with editorial oversight and other priorities.
