Simon and Schuster, Inc. is seeking a National Accounts Manager to join the Distribution Client National Accounts sales team, selling children’s and adult client titles to Books-a-Million/American Wholesale Book Company (AWBC). In this position, the National Account Manager is required to sell in our client lines seasonally. These include New York Times bestsellers, award-winners, plus many evergreen classics. Our clients are some of the largest publishers of manga, graphic novels, pop culture, romantasy, self-help, test prep, health & wellness, business, art, mysteries & thrillers, politics, cookbooks, adult coloring, tarot, plus licensed and non-licensed kids’ books in the world. The perfect Account Manager will have a broad base of publishing market knowledge and interests. This role requires creating and maintaining strong relationships with the Books-a-Million buying and management teams. Books-a-Million is in growth mode, and we need a rep who can find titles that fit the expanding opportunities at the account. This role requires the Account Manager to create good relationships with the clients. They must provide up front guidance as well as regular ongoing feedback on titles, at sell-in through on-sale. They must keep accurate estimates and provide forecasts. They are the voice of the market for clients providing feedback on covers, packaging and content at sales conference and other meetings. They must also work well in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of active selling experience in the publishing industry is required, preferably with Books-a-Million, Ingram or Barnes & Noble
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills needed with the ability to effectively communicate with varied personalities at the account as well as all levels of management
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage many projects simultaneously while attending to details and deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Edelweiss
  • Passionate, dedicated reader
