About The Position

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a National Accounts and Data Center Application Engineer. This position primarily supports proposal needs for medium, large and/or complex projects pertaining to Eaton related services and solutions. The role involves leading technical proposal/bid package development, providing power distribution application support, and responding to requests from North American sales, channel partners, and reps across various segments. The engineer will analyze project specifications, lead pricing development, provide construction estimating, and engage third-party vendors. They will also support complex turnkey projects, offer unique solutions, and influence customer and consultant specifications. Additionally, the role includes supporting project hand-off activities, capturing "extras," attending customer presentations, contributing to digital tools for pricing and quotations, supporting sales growth, visiting job sites, participating in division-wide initiatives, reviewing contract terms, tracking proposal activities, and mentoring junior team members. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 5 years minimum electrical industry related application engineering and proposal development experience with additional experience in electrical power systems and/or industrial and utility substation construction OR 7 years minimum experience electrical industry related application engineering and proposal development experience with additional experience in electrical power systems and/or industrial and utility substation construction in lieu of a degree
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Power distribution field experience in servicing, maintaining, and testing electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Working knowledge of troubleshooting, tests, and repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge of pricing and proposal generation in the electrical industry (both private sector and government bids).
  • Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication skills. Particular skill in communicating technical information to non-technical personnel, educating customers, and presenting information to internal and external customers.
  • Advanced understanding of the competitor's electrical, electronic, and mechanical products and services.
  • Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working with electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Has demonstrated ability to provide service and represent company interests in developing customer relationships to assure long-term customer satisfaction.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing subcontractor work scopes and Subcontractor agreements; preferred experience with GSA purchasing procedures; being able to evaluate proposals for specification compliance.
  • Experience with risk evaluation and risk management.
  • Estimating experience in substation and electrical system installations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical proposal/bid package development and provide power distribution application support for the XX regions and other regions as needed.
  • Respond to requests from North American sales, channel partners and reps across industrial, commercial, government and utility segments.
  • Offer detailed project specification analysis, lead pricing development, provide construction estimating / subcontractor scope of work and engage third party vendors.
  • Support complex proposals related to large turnkey projects.
  • Provide unique solutions beyond standard specifications to provide greater customer value and incorporate lessons learned to improve solution and pricing strategies.
  • Provide support to Eaton equipment application engineers in an effort to influence customer and consultation specifications, distributing of Eaton Standard Specifications to Consultants and End-Users
  • Lead and support project hand-off activities and capture "extras" on projects which were beyond the original specification.
  • Attend and lead customer presentations via joint customer visits with sales channels. Educate and promote engineering services broad product and solution portfolio.
  • Contribute to the digital development and standardization of pricing models, quotation tools and processes to provide best-in-class service to our customers and improve proposal efficiency.
  • Help continuous sales growth, regularly supporting sales leads from other channel and other areas outside of the normal region.
  • Visit job sites with other Eaton field service personnel or sales to enhance understanding of Eaton products, field activities and solution development.
  • Actively support other division-wide initiatives and new offering development
  • Support contracts terms and conditions review
  • Track and provide monthly reporting of proposal activities.
  • Support and mentor junior team members
