About The Position

The Numerical Advisory Solutions (a Zachry Group Company) is seeking an NAS-Advisory Engineer. The successful candidate will use independent judgment to perform calculations and/or designs, and will be able to present and justify analyses to regulatory, quality, and safety reviews. This role requires superior technical knowledge in nuclear and mechanical disciplines, with the ability to lead or work on project teams to evaluate plant performance, safety, and reliability. The individual must be able to interface with equipment vendors and has experience reviewing and checking analyses performed by others. Familiarity with nuclear power industry codes and standards, as well as applicable state and federal regulations (including the NRC), is essential. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to develop and deliver training in areas of expertise. The role involves routine interaction with organization leaders, clients, customers, officials, and contractors, and requires initiating and maintaining extensive contacts with key engineers and officials. Skills in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues are necessary. Excellent client interface/communication skills and the ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines are a must. The candidate must have experience presenting projects to both technical and business audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate science from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues.
  • Twenty-two (22) years minimum experience.
  • For a software development/research role, an engineering PhD with superior academic achievement, plus 16 years of nuclear, chemical, petrochemical or sustainability (e.g., carbon capture, hydrogen, ammonia, energy storage) industries and specialized technical experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Experience with mentoring/teaching personnel.
  • Experience in the nuclear power industry is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in project scheduling techniques is required.
  • Ability to reasonably estimate the required effort to complete projects is required.
  • Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required.
  • Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes and to provide interpretations to others.
  • Ability to manage project schedules, budgets and assigned project resources is required.
  • Ability to carefully listen is required.
  • For software development roles, high level expertise with certain programming languages and techniques is required dependent upon the program.
  • Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas is required.
  • Capability of a candidate to comply with export control laws will be taken into consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Actual operating plant experience on nuclear plant projects is desired.
  • Professional Engineer preferred.
  • MS in an appropriate engineering discipline (nuclear, mechanical, or chemical) from an ABET accredited university is desired.

  • Manages programs, projects, and associated personnel.
  • Prepares proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
  • Establishes engineering programs and associated objectives and requirements.
  • Supports regulator interface.
  • Mentors younger professionals on technical approaches, processes, and techniques, leading by example.
  • Contributes to growth of younger professionals through formal and informal training.
  • Member of industry organization preferred, leadership role or committee participation encouraged; technical presentations/publications support; recognized as engineering authorities.
