The Lead Technician oversees assigned work and leads Aircraft Maintenance Technicians. The role is accountable for the quality and quantity of work and for compliance with company policies, manuals, FAA regulations, approved parts, and approved data. The Lead Technician promotes a positive, safe, and efficient work environment and supports technician development. Lead Technician duties are in addition to Maintenance Technician responsibilities. The position leads scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on company aircraft; monitors aircraft status, maintenance records, inspections, flight hours, cycles, and MEL/DMI/CDL deadlines; coordinates aircraft availability and status communications; audits maintenance documentation and TRAX records; and ensures maintenance is documented before aircraft release. It also includes coordinating deicing and anti-icing, assigning and training technicians, scheduling staffing, reporting hazards and incidents, providing feedback and initiating disciplinary action for direct reports, and completing hangar tasks and projects. When specifically delegated during the Maintenance Manager’s absence, the Lead Technician assumes temporary responsibilities of that role. Most work takes place in a maintenance hangar or on an outdoor airline ramp. The work may involve adverse weather, wet or icy surfaces, stationary and moving aircraft, and aircraft ground equipment. Personal protective equipment is required. The role involves frequent movement of up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting or movement of up to 70 pounds, frequent use of hands and tools, ladder use, and may involve extended periods in confined spaces.
