About The Position

This PRN Music Therapist position involves assessing the music therapy needs of hospice patients and their families, providing appropriate music therapy interventions, and consulting with the interdisciplinary team. The role includes documenting care, educating staff and the community about music therapy's role in end-of-life care, and providing bereavement follow-up. The Music Therapist will also serve as a resource to staff, support the organization's mission, ensure timely documentation, and perform other duties as required, while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalency in Music Therapy.
  • Licensed to practice as a Music Therapist – Board Certified (MT-BC) within the state.
  • Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
  • Understands hospice philosophy, focus of care is comfort vs. rehab and to maintain care in their residence as long as possible.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for the state providing service within.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters’ degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses music therapy needs of the patient/family and provides music therapy to the hospice patients and their families, as appropriate.
  • Consults with interdisciplinary team about patient referrals to assess needs and prioritize intervention.
  • Document all care provided on the patient’s clinical records in accordance with documentation requirement.
  • Educate hospice staff and community about the role of Music Therapist and the use of music therapy interventions with hospice patients and family.
  • Provide bereavement follow-up to family members when determined appropriate by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization.
  • Serve as a music enhancement resource to staff.
  • Support and promote Hospice’s mission to lead in providing exceptional patient – centered end of life care.
  • Participate in Hospice’s success by ensuring access to our exceptional care.
  • Timely submission of all documentation.
  • Performance of other duties as required.
  • Ensure overall compliance with local, state and federal laws, Medicare regulations, and established personnel policies and procedures.
