About The Position

Atlas Public Schools is seeking a passionate, engaging, and student-centered Music Teacher to provide music instruction for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Music Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality music education that develops students' musical knowledge, skills, creativity, and confidence while fostering a joyful and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate believes all students can succeed in music, creates engaging learning experiences for young learners across multiple grade levels, and contributes positively to the school community through performances, events, and collaborative partnerships with staff and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Knowledge of music pedagogy across early childhood and elementary grade levels.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching music to students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
  • Experience directing student performances or ensembles.
  • Familiarity with diverse instructional strategies and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Ability to play piano, guitar, or other accompaniment instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging music instruction for students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
  • Develop age-appropriate lessons that build foundational music skills, including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, singing, instrumental exploration, music appreciation, and music literacy.
  • Create developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support the unique needs of early childhood, primary, and upper elementary students.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Integrate opportunities for creativity, performance, movement, and self-expression into instruction.
  • Utilize assessment data and observations to monitor student growth and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for students across a wide range of developmental stages.
  • Implement effective classroom management systems that maximize instructional time and student engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with students while maintaining high expectations for behavior and participation.
  • Foster student confidence and encourage collaboration, perseverance, and artistic growth.
  • Coordinate and lead student performances, concerts, assemblies, and other musical showcases throughout the school year for students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and classroom teachers to support school-wide events and celebrations.
  • Communicate performance expectations and opportunities with families.
  • Promote student participation in musical experiences and extracurricular opportunities when available.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, instructional coaches, and school leaders.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Maintain accurate student records and assessment data.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
