About The Position

The Music Teacher is responsible for the instruction of music content in a classroom setting within grade levels K-12. This role involves designing and implementing appropriate music instruction in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs. The teacher will create a positive educational climate, deliver engaging and rigorous music lessons, and utilize diverse teaching practices to meet individual student needs. Responsibilities also include observing and evaluating student performance, managing classroom behavior, communicating with parents and staff, and ensuring the health and safety of students.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree.
Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Music or eligibility for Florida Temporary Music Certificate is required.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Microsoft Office proficiency.

Degree or formal training in music preferred.

Responsibilities

Designs and implements appropriate music instruction assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous music lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
Performs any other duties as assigned.
