About The Position
At Queen City Academy Charter School, we believe music has the power to unlock confidence, discipline, and joy in every scholar. As our Music Teacher, you'll introduce students to the world of sound—guiding them to explore rhythm, melody, and diverse musical traditions while building skills that resonate far beyond the classroom. Queen City Academy Charter School is Plainfield, New Jersey's first charter school, proudly serving scholars in grades K-12—with our network now expanding into Hillside. We're also building a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Plainfield, designed to enhance and elevate the learning experience for every student who walks through our doors. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (minimum requirement) and certification as appropriate
- At least a Certificate of Eligibility (QCACS leadership can guide you toward full New Jersey certification)
- A valid New Jersey Certificate or proof of passing the required PRAXIS tests before employment is offered
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to communicate with parents and students
- Mastery of subject matter content and a team-player mindset
- High expectations of students and a solid understanding of child development
- Understand and appreciate diverse musical genres
- Commit to our school design and philosophy, relentlessly pursuing high achievement in the classroom
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver standards-aligned, rigorous, and engaging lessons that meet high academic standards
- Communicate and maintain high academic and personal expectations for all students
- Differentiate instruction to best meet the needs of every student
- Integrate research-based strategies that improve student retention of course concepts
- Develop lesson plans that align instruction to state learning standards and grade-level outcomes
- Build long- and short-term plans that address the needs of individual students
- Make content accessible and meaningful to students
- Leverage technology to foster greater inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interactions with and among students, colleagues, and families
- Develop and implement plans to ensure a safe, orderly, non-threatening learning environment for all students
- Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to share information, learn more about students, and celebrate student successes
- Use data to guide instructional decisions about student learning needs
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including the annual one-week staff training, to enrich your expertise in music and general pedagogy
