Music Instructor - Drums
About The Position
School of Rock is a performance-based music education community and after-school music education provider. The Music Instructor is responsible for music education within lessons and rehearsals, creating an engaging experience that challenges and inspires students and helps them develop music and life skills. Instruction may include the core areas of keys, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, with opportunities to engage instructors’ broader musical talents. The role includes delivering private lessons and supporting shows, teaching music fundamentals, preparing and documenting lesson plans, communicating with parents about student progress, and helping with rehearsals and school operations. Instructors are expected to embody School of Rock’s values and follow its conduct, safety, monitoring, and supervision policies.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience teaching and/or performing music professionally.
- Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design.
- Excellent ability to work with a wide range of customers and other people.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Very strong customer relations skills.
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor.
- Good judgment.
- Passion for teaching.
Nice To Haves
- Working musician; formal music school training is also considered ideal.
Responsibilities
- Maximize the quality of music instruction in private lessons and shows.
- Teach students the fundamentals of music, not just songs.
- Create and document thoughtful lesson plans.
- Communicate regularly with parents about students’ progress after lessons.
- Interact regularly with parents and students by being visible and accessible at the school.
- Assist with the overall execution of the program during canceled lessons.
- Assist with rehearsals and basic school maintenance.
- Adhere to the School of Rock Code of Conduct and safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.
